Financial crisis boosts German furniture sales
This is the first major trade fair of the year in Germany and, considering that it comes on the heels of an economic crisis, it is doing quite well with 1,053 exhibitors representing 51 countries. That is an increase in one percent from last year.
Furniture, kitchen and other design specialty shops did surprisingly well last year, despite the global finance woes. Germans spent almost 30 billion euro (42.5 billion US-Dollars) on furniture and kitchens in 2009. That is in addition to the 6 billion euro they laid out for carpeting, household textiles and accessories.
The demand for office and shop furnishings has decreased by 17 percent, which is typical for a recession. Demand from abroad has also decreased by about the same amount.

After the second floor sales had been completed, 50% of the first floor sales we are also made, while 241 local and international companies signed contracts.
As the fair is organized in two floors, entrance-exit gates will be placed in different floors and thus visitors will see all stands at the fairground.
Visitor entrances will be on the second floor. Visitors strolling around the second floor will go down to the first floor via escalator and will leave the fair ground through the exit gates in the first floor which is designed in a way that visitors will see all companies exhibiting in that floor. 60.000 visitors will exit the fair by strolling around all stands situated in the first floor. That is the greatest advantage of the companies exhibiting in this floor.
